One of the more recent drugs to treat hypertension is valsartan, which belongs to the Angiotensin-receptor blockers (ARB) group of drugs. Since its introduction in 1996, it has been widely used to treat hypertension due to its efficacy and being well-tolerated by patients. In this brief review, an update of all pharmacological aspects of valsartan will be succinctly discussed, which includes pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, indications, contraindications, adverse effects, and drug interactions.
