Investigating the relation between library anxiety and personality traits in users of public libraries in Behbahan in 2016 Download PDF

Abstract

Introduction: Library's anxiety is known as a deterrent factor to meet users' information needs and possibly reduce study capitation. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between library anxiety and personality traits among the users of public libraries in Behbahan. Methodology: This research was a descriptive study that conducted using survey and correlation traits. Based on Morgan table, the sample size was selected 175 of users of public libraries in Behbahan. The data was gathered through the standard of Bostick library anxiety and short form of personality traits NEO (NEO-FFI). The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was calculated reliability about 90/0 for library anxiety scale and personality traits of Neuroticism, Introversion or Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Openness, respectively, 83/0, 75/0, 80 / 0, 79/0 and 79/0. Result: Pearson correlation showed that there is a positive relationship between the anxiety and personality traits of Neuroticism and also there is a negative relationship (r=342) between Agreeableness and Conscientiousness, (r=246). Discussion and Conclusion: librarians are required to identify their users' personality traits as an essential factor for more successful interaction. Based on these results we can see that discover the personality traits are mutual strategy both for librarians and for users.
