Study of Relationship between Cardiovascular Risk Factors and Results of Exercise Test in Patients Who Referred to a Hospital in Urmia, Iran Download PDF

Abstract

Background: The main signs of coronary diseases are chest pain and the shortness of breath that is occurred due to many factors known as cardiovascular risk factors. As a prognostic and diagnostic method, ETT (Exercise Tolerance Test) is used for assessing the ischemic heart patients. The aim of present study is to determine cardiovascular risk factors and results of exercise test relationship in cardiac diseases patients who are referred to a hospital in Urmia, Iran in 2009. Materials & Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on 500 patients with coronary diseases with typical and non-typical pain referred to cardiac wards of Taleghani Hospital, Urmia in 2009. After the interview, examination and laboratory tests, the patients underwent ETT with treadmill according to Bruce protocol in four steps. Results: The present study showed that the test was positive in 106 (21.2%) patients. 58 (54.7%) of them who had positive results were male and (46 patients, 43.4%) were in age group of 51-65 years. Hypertension, high age, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, smoking more than 3 years and family history of cardiovascular disease had a significance correlation with positive result of exercise test. Conclusion: Exercise test is an important method to diagnostic risk factors in cardiovascular patients. Attention to serious signs and symptoms is main educational priority for the prevention of coronary diseases.
